Calonox 2 Sight is a Clip-On thermal monocular that can be mounted on the rifle scope Leica and adopts a new Leica technology that brings it to aim where the scope reticle aims, for observing and aiming through connection with the lens of a rifle scope of any brand. The unique thermal viewer designed and built by Leica entirely in Germany and with exclusively European partners is extremely compact and uses the same large screen with 60hz frequency for both observing and aiming, with technology that allows the full screen to be viewed even while holding the viewer six inches from the eye. The Gasir lens instead of Germanium stabilizes focus and offers unprecedented depth of field. It is fully customizable with the specially developed App that can be updated online. to always have a state-of-the-art viewer. This new model replaces the discontinued Calonox Sight.
- This is the world's first thermal monocular totally designed and built in Germany, with exclusively European partners for essential parts.
In an industry where almost all products are created totally or to a large extent in the Far East or otherwise outside the EU, Leica's 100-year experience and legendary attention to detail, materials, and quality control of European and German customer culture have already made a difference with previous Calonox models. The difference can be seen immediately in the unique, essential and elegant design; in the easy handling and ergonomics, with all moving elements smooth and perfect; in the robustness, which comes from the care taken in materials, construction tolerances and assembly. Anyone who is used to using another instrument and encounters a Calonox 2 will sense this immediately, and even more so over time.
- Unique that aims where the scope reticle aims.
The Calonox 2 Sight mounts to the objective of any scope and, for the first time in a clip-on, aims exactly where the scope reticle aims, thus requiring no collimation with the riflescope. This means that when you aim with the Calonox 2 mounted on the lens you hit exactly the spot you would only hit with the scope, whereas in general thermal clip-ons of all makes have accustomed us at times to not even catch the sign with the first shot at 100 yards.
- French Lynred 640×480 pixel 12nm thermal sensor, the most advanced 640 on the market, detection 2300m.
The thermal sensor is something that is produced by specialized firms and only one company in Europe, French Lynred. Leica has adopted Lynred's most advanced sensor, the 640×480 at 12nm per pixel, designed for military use and under harsh conditions, which offers guaranteed durability even after thousands of usage sessions. The maximum signaling distance of the conventionally 180cm high hot element is an impressive 2300 meters. This sensor is known to make the animal stand out very clearly from other elements in the environment. Looking through the Calonox 2 one can immediately see the brilliance and strength of contrast that characterizes the animal, which stands out sharply. At the same time, the Leica software LIO (Leica Image Optimization), mutuato dal bianco e nero fotografico Leica, offre una scala di grigi perfetta per caratterizzare al meglio i dettagli freddi, calando quindi l’animale nel suo ambiente al meglio.
- 42mm GASIR objective lens instead of Germanium.
Thermal monocular lenses are generally Germanium, an element that is sensitive to heat. When the monocular is hot, using a thermal monocular you can clearly feel the need to keep focusing the image, even without changing the distance. GASIR® is a synthetic material that is insensitive to heat up to very high temperatures, and has much better performance characteristics than Germanium. GASIR® is the material from which Franco-Canadian Umicore produced the Calonox 2 lens, specifically for Leica.
Another great innovation, which is a dream for those accustomed to using thermal sights for observing. The Calonox 2 Sight has such a large exit pupil (28mm) that you can see the entire screen even if you keep your eye six inches from the eyepiece.
- Extreme ease of use.
The Calonox 2 is easy to use, the ignition located on the eyepiece and already set up for day and night use, which is very intuitive despite the various functions available. The Leica2hunt App adds further simplicity and alerts whenever there is an update to download to improve the Calonox 2 or add functions. Also introduced is the elimination of the shutter, which is in practice that split-second image disappearance click that thermals pay for at screen calibration. Viewing with the Calonox is constant and uninterrupted. Leica also wanted to install the function (which can be turned on or off) that puts it on standby and automatically turns it back on when the instrument is tilted vertically and then back to the horizontal position.
- Lightweight and compact (590g in weight and 13.9cm in length).
Lighter instruments also exist, sacrificing the quality of materials and with small objective lens diameter. for a 42mm objective lens, with the functions and materials of the Calonox 2, and still even in absolute terms 590 grams is a decidedly low weight. The length of only 14 centimeters is a masterpiece of Leica engineers and designs; in the hand it is really small and very handy.
- 11 hours of rechargeable internal battery life.
The internal rechargeable battery ensures the integrity of its rechargeability for thousands of cycles of uses. A full charge, which takes about 90 minutes with a USB wall outlet (but also charges in a car or on a PC) lasts 11 hours. Although the battery is very good, Leica has added 4 standby modes to extend its life even longer.
- Various optionals available to further enhance the user experience.
The Calonox 2 also has some high quality accessories that can be purchased separately that complement it depending on how you want to use it. These include a Recknagel mount for Picatinny sled mounting, a remote control for photo and video, Rusan adapters for mounting on the scope lens, and a 2.5x eyepiece with Rusan dioptric adjustment for enlarging the screen and adjusting it without glasses.
- Main differences with other Calonox models in comparison with the Calonox 2 Sight.
The 17nm Chinese thermal sensor of the Sight / Sight SE is replaced with a 640×480 pixel 12nm French one. The screen changes from 1024×768 pixels to OLED 1280×960 pixels, from zoomable for observing and reducible for aiming to always large. Size decreases from 16.5cm in length to 13.9cm and weight from 685 grams to 590 grams. The new Calonox 2 Sight aims where the scope reticle aims, while the Calonox Sight, needs to check that it is collimated with the optics. The new model takes photos and video and has internal memory, while the Sight and Sight SE models take photos and video, but connected by cable to an external miniDVR. The lens is no longer Germanium like the other thermals but GASIR. Water resistance changes from water-resistant to water-proof, watertight. The image refresh rate goes from 50 to 60hz, and the shutter that calibrates the screen has been eliminated. The Calonox 2 has Infinite color palettes, customizable as desired and preset and customizable winter, summer and rain modes.
