Hornady® A-Tip® Match large-calibre bullets offer shooters maximum performance at any distance, including extreme ranges (ELR). Unlike monometallic, turned solid copper or copper alloy bullets, A-Tip® bullets feature three components (gold metal jacket, lead core and aluminium tip) carefully designed to maximise bullet performance at supersonic, transonic and subsonic velocities. Overall accuracy and consistency are critical, particularly when shooting in ELR. To take advantage of the enhanced performance offered by large-calibre A-Tip® bullets, shooters must use appropriate barrel twist rates that work with these jacketed bullets.

The twist rate refers to the rate of rotation in the rifle barrel and is represented in inches per revolution. For example, a twist rate of 1:10 means that the bullet completes one revolution in 10 inches of barrel. A faster twist rate can make the bullet complete one revolution in only 8 inches of barrel and would be expressed as 1:8. The lower the number, the faster the spin.

So why do other bullets need extremely high twist rates? The short answer is because they are very long.

Traditional ELR bullets are lathe-turned from solid lead-free material. They have to be longer to achieve the necessary weight to reduce drag. But this also requires an extremely fast twist rate to ensure stability in flight.

Hornady® A-Tip® Match large-calibre bullets, on the other hand, are conventional, jacketed, lead-core bullets. Because lead is denser than the lathe-machined material of other bullets, A-Tip® bullets do not have to be as long and do not require faster twist rates, such as 1:8 or 1:9.

In fact, excessively fast twist rates exert too much torque on the bullet and can deform the jacket. The use of large-calibre A-Tip® bullets in fast-twist barrels such as 1:8 or 1:10 may require a reduction in velocity and the resulting rate of bullet twist for best results.

Hornady recommends a 1:11 spin rate for the .375 and 390 grain ball.

PRODUCT FEATURES

- Tip design

Aluminum tip is precision machined and longer than polymer tips which moves the center of gravity and enhances inflight stability.

Aeroballistically advanced tip design results in tighter groups and reduced drag variability.

Perfect blend of ogive, tip length, bearing surface and optimized boattail by caliber.

- Performance

Doppler radar verified low drag coefficient (high BC) bullets are forgiving of twist rate, seating depth and muzzle velocity.

Refined design of the AMP® bullet jacket offers industry leading uniformity and concentricity.

- Manufacturing

Right off the press – sequentially packaged, one clone after another for the ultimate in consistent performance.

Minimal handling throughout the manufacturing process ensures consistency from bullet to bullet.

Packaged with a polishing bag to prepare bullets for loading (bullets aren’t bulk washed after manufacture).
