BASIC RULES OF WEAPON SAFETY

Recommended by Glock

Safety is always the first priority on and off the field.

Gun ownership entails important responsibilities. This includes how to use, maintain, store and handle the gun correctly.

Therefore, all gun owners must strictly follow the four basic rules of gun safety and the additional safety guidelines below.

RULE 1

Treat each firearm as if it were loaded.

RULE 2

Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. A safe direction is one in which no one can be injured if the gun is fired. Never point the gun (whether loaded or unloaded) at yourself or anyone else. When choosing a safe direction, you must consider that a bullet can ricochet or bounce off any object it hits (including even the surface of water), that it can penetrate walls, ceilings, floors and windows, and that even a gun can travel several kilometres.

RULE 3

Keep your finger off the trigger guard until the gun is pointed at the target and you have decided to shoot.

RULE 4

Always make sure that your target and what is around and beyond it is safe before shooting.

FURTHER SECURITY GUIDELINES

RULE 5

Whenever handling a firearm, the first thing to do (while holding it pointed in a safe direction with your finger outside the trigger guard) is to remove the magazine and open the action to make sure the weapon is not loaded.

RULE 6

Read the instruction manual supplied with your firearm carefully.

RULE 7

Before firing the weapon, you should regularly ensure that the weapon is in good condition and that the barrel is free of dirt and obstructions, including excess grease and lubricant.

RULE 8

Only use the ammunition recommended by the gun manufacturer and always ensure that it matches the calibre of your gun. The calibre of each GLOCK pistol is marked on the barrel and slide.

RULE 9

Quality ear and eye protection must always be worn when filming or observing.

RULE 10

Never carry or use firearms while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

RULE 11

All firearms must be stored and secured in a locked case, inaccessible to children and untrained or unauthorised adults.

RULE 12

Transportation of firearms is regulated by state laws. Always transport your firearm in a safe, unloaded condition and in accordance with applicable laws.
