Both the original Big Boss and the new Big Boss II possess all the desirable features for a shooter that were already present in the older press models of the "BOSS" line. In addition, they were built with much heavier and sturdier frames having a 1" thicker punch than the previous models. In addition, they are characterized by having a longer piston stroke of about 3.8" which allows even the largest magnum cartridges to be reloaded, using all the possible travel.
The Big Boss II has a unique feature that only Redding has and that is the "Spent Primer Collection System." This is a very innovative primer collection system that is also found on the T-7 models and the UltraMag press. The key feature of this press compared to its single-station peers is that it has a much wider opening window and, more importantly, a longer piston length that allows for a greater stroke. It is simply the best press a shooter could ever purchase and keep in his or her workshop for reloading.
Features:
- "Spent Primer Collection System" = Innovative primer collection system.
- 1" diameter piston
- Frame constructed of heavy cast iron with central body tilted from vertical 36° so as to provide the best possible view
- Large frame opening of approximately 4-1/2"
- Piston length of 3-13/16", useful for reloading even magnum calibers
- Straight/Side handle with ball-shaped knob for easy reloading operations
- "Smart" mechanism for automatic primer insertion whenever the main lever of the press is operated. This mechanism moves both inward and outward independently
- Very strong connection between main body and turret
- An adjustable steel bushing allows all dies with standard 7/8"-14 threads to be installed and can be removed whenever it is necessary to use "oversized dies"
