For all those who reload by hand and are always looking for greater precision. Precision requires consistency and accuracy in each individual operation. It also requires high-quality hand tools. The brass cartridge case is a really important component, and sometimes some key details are overlooked, such as the vamp hole or the primer seat. In industrial production manufacturing, the vamp hole is very often 'pushed back' into the brass itself that makes up the case. This is because it is the fastest and least expensive method, but it has significant shortcomings and inconsistencies. The resulting vamp hole, therefore, can be of a variety of sizes and shapes. And furthermore what is even more detrimental to accuracy is that you get The so-called 'irregular unblockings' or smears inside the cartridge. All this, when firing, could cause significant differences between one shot and the next, especially in the 'flame front' of the primer. The consequences are quite deleterious in that all this causes significant inconsistencies in pressure/velocity that are reflected in the loss of accuracy. This is the fundamental reason why Benchrest shooters have used to go to uniforming the flare hole since as far back as 1969.
